Interethnic Coexistence and Dialogue in the Western Balkan Region /
The Future of the Western Balkan Region

From spring 2001 until autumn 2003 the Southeast Association has focused mainly on the interethnic dialogue in the Western Balkan region. Conferences held in Macedonia, Serbia, Kosovo and in Montenegro provided the fora for an intensive dialogue and for discussions on problems and perspectives of the interethnic coexistence in the related countries / entities. The participants came from the civil society (academics, media, culture, think tanks, NGOs etc.) and from German and international organisations / think tanks. Each conference followed the same structure with working groups dealing with the role of
Education / Vocational training / Research
  Media and Culture
  Economy
Participants at the working groups openly discussed under the Chatham House Rules and came to concrete policy recommendations related to the overall topics . These were finally presented at an international conference, held in cooperation with the German Federal Foreign Office in September 2003 in Berlin.
