  • International Conferences

    The SOG organises international conferences, symposia, and expert workshops.

  • Publications

    The SOG publishes scholarly articles on Southeastern Europe and transmits information about scientific, economic and cultural co-operation.

  • Scholarship Programme

    The SOG supports young scholars up to (and including) the age of 40 through scholarships for short-term studies in the humanities and in the social and economic sciences. Interested scholars should have good active and passive knowledge of the German language. For further information (in German), see page

  • International University Week

    Once every year, the SOG organises its International University Week (Internationale Hochschulwoche), one of its most important conference projects. During the Hochschulwoche, experts from German speaking countries and Southeastern Europe are invited to contribute to an intensive scientific dialogue about specified fields of interest.


  • Award for Young Scholars

    Every year the SOG is offering special awards (Förderpreis) for excellent dissertations and postdoctorial theses conducting research on Southeastern Europe.

  • Prizes and Awards for Senior Researchers and Journalists

    With its Rudolf-Vogel-Medaille the SOG awards journalists reporting about Southeast Europe.
    The Konstantin-Jirecek-Medaille is the SOG's award for excellence in research on Southeastern Europe and for merits in intercultural relations.
