Mission statement

Southeast Europe AssociationThe Southeast Europe Association (Südosteuropa-Gesellschaft - SOG) is a mediation body and has developed into one of the most important institutions in the field of research and policy advice on Southeastern Europe within Germany. Since its foundation in 1952, the Association has become an important actor within German External Cultural Politics.

Building bridges is an important task

Through conferences, publications and through the combined knowledge of its members active in the fields of science, politics, economy and culture, as well as through the media, the SOG provides a forum for the dialogue between the Federal Republic of Germany and the countries of Southeastern Europe. This enables an intensive exchange and communication of ideas in various fields of Southeast European politics.

Independent and Impartial

The SOG is a private and not-for-profit association. Its members come from a wide range of backgrounds, including scholars, politicians, business people and representatives of the media. The SOG office is located in Munich. The main task of the Southeast Europe Association is to foster and enhance the relationship between the Federal Republic of Germany and the countries in Southeastern Europe in the fields of science, economy and culture, and to deepen the knowledge about the historical and recent developments in this region.
